A new debate has emerged over the ongoing membership drive of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Madhya Pradesh. Senior BJP leader, former minister and MLA Ajay Vishnoi has raised concerns about the membership drive. On his X account, Vishnoi shared that he received a phone call offering to handle the membership drive on his behalf. The call came from an agency and Vishnoi expressed concerns that people might use money to increase their membership count and portray themselves as influential leaders.
Following Vishnoi’s tweet, the Congress party launched an attack, accusing the BJP of running a fraudulent membership drive. Meanwhile, BJP MLA from Bhopal South-West and State General Secretary Bhagwan Das Sabnani defended Vishnoi’s remarks.
Ajay Vishnoi, MLA from Patan in Jabalpur wrote on X “If you want to increase BJP memberships, spend money. I received a call from an agency asking for the contract to create BJP members under my account.”
He further added that there must be other such agencies, which are likely helping power-hungry people, who have no real support base, inflate their memberships and appear important to the party. As long-time workers, we can only feel disappointed by this decline.
On Vishnoi’s post, MPCC President Jeetu Patwari reacted by writing on X, “BJP’s own MLA has exposed
the false statistics being used to promote their membership campaign. For 20 years, the BJP has been inflating figures related to oppression, poverty and hunger in Madhya Pradesh. Now, they are using agencies to inflate their membership figures as well.”
Leader of the Opposition, Umang Singhar also commented on Vishnoi’s tweet, stating that Vishnoi has revealed that contracts are being handed out for the BJP’s membership campaign. “I urge the BJP State President to acknowledge how their party is conducting its membership drive in the State and manipulating numbers. He should pay close attention to what Ajay Vishnoi is saying.
Other Congress leaders also reacted sharply on MLA Vishnoi’s post on X.
