SURAJPUR,

In a major development in the Surajpur double murder case, police have arrested the main accused, Kuldeep Sahu, who was on the run after allegedly killing the wife and daughter of a head constable. The arrest was made after Sahu was held from a passenger bus coming from Jharkhand. Sahu fled after injuring a police officer and committing the double murder. Acting on a tip-off about Sahu’s whereabouts, Surajpur police intercepted the bus and arrested him on board. The accused has been taken to the Balrampur Cyber Cell for interrogation. Officials stated that further details on the case will be revealed soon. The incident occurred on Sunday when Sahu reportedly had an altercation with a policeman at Choupatty and enraged, Sahu hurled boiling oil from a hotel pan onto the constable, severely burning him. The injured officer was referred to Ambikapur for treatment. A case was registered against Sahu, and a manhunt was launched.

While evading capture, Sahu attempted to run over officers who were conducting foot searches in dark. Shortly after the initial incident, Sahu allegedly broke into the rented house of head constable Talib Sheikh in Mahganwa, located on the outskirts of city. Sheikh’s wife attempted to call her husband, but the call went unanswered. When Talib Sheikh tried to contact his wife, he, too, was unable to reach her. Growing suspicious, he rushed home to find blood stains inside the house and a knife outside. His wife, daughter were missing. A search was conducted, and the bodies of Sheikh’s wife and daughter were tragically discovered around 5 kilometers from the house. The police are expected to disclose further information on this gruesome case soon.

Former Deputy Chief Minister T S Singhdeo criticised the Sai-led BJP government for the worsening law and order situation in State. Addressing the media, Singhdeo expressed concern over the rising crime rates, particularly in Surajpur district. He emphasized that women and girls are unsafe under the BJP regime, citing a recent case where a tribal girl was abducted by men on motorcycles in Surajpur. Singhdeo further said that that the victim sustained severe injuries and, according to her statement, was brutally assaulted. Despite this, the police failed to file a First Information Report (FIR). The girl has since been transferred from Surajpur District Hospital to Ambikapur Medical College for further treatment. Singhdeo also mentioned that upon contacting the Inspector General of Police, Surguja Range, he was informed that the girl’s statement had been recorded. He also brought attention to another incident in Surajpur, where the wife and daughter of a head constable were murdered. The accused in the case, who had previously been externed from the district, still managed to commit the crime. Singhdeo criticized the police for not enforcing the ban, suggesting that the tragedy could have been prevented had proper action been taken. In response to a query, Singhdeo highlighted that delayed action by authorities has contributed to the state’s deteriorating law and order, and accused the police of being inactive. Several prominent Congress leaders, including former State Congress President Dhanendra Sahu, senior leader Rajendra Tiwari, State Congress Media Chief Sushil Anand Shukla, and others, were also present at the press conference.
