After taking charge as the Director of Technical Education, Dr Vinod Mohitkar started applying various methods to improve the situation. “The ‘School Connect’ idea was already introduced and it started bearing fruits from the very next year as in 2019, the admissions rose to 50%. It further increased to 60% in 2020-21 while in 2021-22, the admissions further increased to 70%. This year, we have added some more programmes like counseling meeting, awareness drive, interviews on radio for which our teachers have taken a lot of efforts,” explained Dr Mohitkar. The rise was not much in 2023-24 as compared to the previous year. In 2022-23, the admission per centage was 84.45 while in 2023-24, the per centage rose to 84.87.

This year, it increased to 95.25%. There was a phase when admissions in Diploma courses were dwindling. In fact ome colleges preferred to down the shutters. Dr Mohitkar elaborated, “Basically, the scheme was implemented under the guidance of minister Chandrakantdada Patil, Principal Secretary Vikas Rastogi. Class 10 students were involved in the scheme. Polytechnics identified schools with Class X and approached them. Faculty of polytechnic conducted interactions with headmasters, followed by faculty and then with students of Class 10. the details were explained to them including functioning of polytechnics, opportunities in higher education and job prospects.” Earlier, admissions were done through the Common Entrance Test Cell. Since the DTE decided not to hold the CET the difference was palpable.
