AFTER the success of Metro and Vande Bharat trains, Government’s plans and people’s aspiration for more such trains have taken a leap in the last couple of years. According to the Research Designs and Standards Organisation, Lucknow, country will have another fleet of higher speed trains very soon.
Exclusively talking to ‘The Hitavada’, Uday Borwankar, Director General, RDSO, told that upgradation of Metro’s speed is going on at a fast pace. More Bharat Rapid and Vande Bharat trains with new features will get ready in couple of months. As far as newly-constructed high speed Metro rakes are concerned it has successfully completed a trial run in Kota Division. Under the upgradation plan, speed of Metro trains will be increased. Successfully undertook balancing speed and controllability trials of these trains. In this month, it will be on track.
This Metro train will increasing connectivity between destinations within lesser time.
Notably, last month Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the country’s first Namo Bharat Rapid Rail between Bhuj and Ahmedabad and it covered 359 km in 5.45 hours. Talking about new batch of Vande Bharat sleeper train rakes, RDSO official said that it is in the final stage of trial run. Testing and trial on balancing, various speed parameters and braking systems are going on.
It may take couple of months to get ready. Vande Bharat Sleeper train will redefine overnight travel between destinations. This advanced train promises faster, more comfortable journeys, benefiting both tourists and business
travellers.
t present 5-6 Metros are running, there will be addition of some around 10 Metros with this total number of Metros in the country will be 17.
According to sources, the maximum speed of New Metro trains will be around 145 kilometre per hour.
Railways will officially announce about the route and division where this new trains will be introduced.
New batch of trains are protected with Kavach; an Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system indigenously developed by Research Designs & Standards Organisation (RDSO).
Primarily, Kavach works on the principle of continuous supervision of the movement authority and is designed to maintain train speed within the specified limits and can automatically apply brakes to slow down or to bring the train to a complete standstill.
Funding for the deployment of Kavach 4.0 was increased to Rs 1.08 lakh crore in 2024-25 to enable its installation in about 10,000 route-km over the next two years, ramping up to between 5,000 and 5,500 km per year 2025-26.
