Instead of a single contractor, four committees will now manage garbage collection in 79 wards, which have been divided into four zones 
 
A number of significant decisions were taken during an important meeting of the Mayor-in-Council, held under the under the chairmanship of Mayor Jagat Bahadur Singh at Jabalpur Municipal Corporation headquarters, on Friday. During the meeting, Mayor Singh stated that Jabalpur is now taking the shape of a metropolitan city. He said tenders for door-to-door garbage collection have been approved. Instead of a single contractor, four committees will now manage garbage collection in 79 wards, which have been divided into four zones. Likewise, he mentioned that by October 25, fresh work orders will be issued to contractors for maintaining the city’s cleanliness. He also directed the health officer to take necessary actions in this regard.
 
The Mayor-in-Council also approved proposals that will create 1,000 new jobs in the city. Moreover, 61 locations will have organized paid parking facilities, which will help improve sanitation and streamline the chaotic parking situation. Mayor Singh further said that the opening of 500 “Daily Needs Centers” across the city, providing employment opportunities for men, women, youth and people with disabilities. These centers will also offer essential household items at affordable prices to local residents. Apart from that, eight lease cases were approved in the meeting, bringing relief to citizens. The Mayor informed that earlier, 840 lease transfer and freehold cases were also approved, setting a historic precedent in providing relief to the people. He said the Jabalpur Municipal Corporation has performed exceptionally well in lease transfer and freehold matters, becoming a model in the State.
