CNR Rao, Naralikar, Bhyrappa, 4 others to receive SAPTARSHI PURASKAR today

Hindu Research Foundation (HRF) has announced the third edition of coveted ‘Saptarshi Puraskar’ to seven legendary figures. These include ‘Bharat Ratna’ Prof C N R Rao, ‘Padma Vibhushan’ Dr Jayant Naralikar, ‘Padma Bhushan’ Dr S L Bhyrappa, ‘Padma Shri’ S Arunan, ‘Padma Shri’ Dr Himmatrao Bawaskar, C B Sompura, and Mohit Joshi. These Indian epitomes of excellence will be honoured in a glittering ceremony at Kavi Kulaguru Kalidas Auditorium of Persistent Systems in IT Park, at 10.30 am on Sunday. Professor Hareram Tripathi, Vice-Chancellor of the Kavi Kulguru Kalidas Sanskrit University will be the chief guest while Dr Bhimaraya Metri, Director of the Indian Institute of Management, Nagpur, will preside over the ceremony, said Dr T S Bhal, retired Additional Director General of Police, Maharashtra, and Founder and Managing Trustee of Hindu Research Foundation, while addressing a press conference.
 
‘Bharat Ratna’ Prof C N R Rao will be honoured with ‘Nagarjuna Award’ for his immense contribution to the field of science. Dr Jayant Naralikar, a well-known figure in the field of astrophysics and Founding Director of world-renowned Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), will be honoured with ‘Acharya Kanad Award’. Dr S L Bhyrappa, a highly respected and widely read litterateur, will be honoured with ‘Maharshi Valmiki Award’. Dr S Arunan, who spearheaded the Mars Orbiter Mission of Indian Space Research Organisation, will be honoured with ‘Acharya Bhardwaj Award’. Dr Himmatrao Bawaskar, who will be honoured with ‘Sushrut Award’, is a physician from Maharashtra who is known for inventing a treatment for scorpion sting envenomation and reducing scorpion sting fatality rate in India from 40 per cent in 1970s to one per cent in 2014. C B Sompura, a world-renowned architect under whose leadership Shri Ram Temple at Ayodhya was designed, will be honoured with ‘Vishwakarma Award’.
 
The prestigious ‘Aryabhatta Award’ will be presented to Mohit Joshi of Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences. In pursuance of the objective of reorienting the glorious past of Bharat for its contribution in the fields of art, architecture, science and literature, HRF instituted national-level awards in the name of ancient Rishis. These awards are on the liines of Nobel Prizes, and would go international in a few years, stated Dr T S Bhal. The award carries Rs 1 lakh cash and commendation certificate. Dr T S Bhal, Harshwardhan Deshmukh, Preeti Ramakrishna and Arvind Giri, former Deputy Commissioner of Police, also were present at the press conference.
