THE Surguja region of Chhattisgarh reached a new milestone in air travel on Sunday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Maa Mahamaya Airport in Darima, Ambikapur, via a virtual ceremony from Varanasi. This initiative marks the beginning of direct flights connecting Ambikapur to major cities across India.
In his address, the Prime Minister highlighted significant advancements in civil aviation, along with progress in the sports and health sectors. The scheduled flights promise to enhance connectivity for residents and travelers, linking Ambikapur with major urban centres. The proposed flight schedule includes departures from Ambikapur to Bilaspur on Mondays and Fridays, followed by routes to Delhi, Jabalpur, and Jagdalpur.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the airport will
facilitate flights to Kolkata, returning to Bilaspur. Wednesdays will see flights heading to Delhi with connections to Bilaspur, Jagdalpur, and Jabalpur, while Saturdays will feature routes from Delhi to Bilaspur and back to Jabalpur. Sundays will provide connections between Delhi, Jagdalpur, and Bilaspur. The inaugural flight took place from Ambikapur to Raipur. With the inauguration of the Maa Mahamaya Airport, residents will benefit from improved access to various destinations, significantly enhancing travel options and fostering economic growth in the region.
