For the first time since being declared a Tiger Reserve, a tiger has been spotted in Guru Ghasidas Tiger Reserve, captured while hunting a buffalo and cow
In a thrilling development
for both wildlife lovers and tourists of the Sarguja
region, a tiger has been spotted in Guru Ghasidas Tiger Reserve, located on the border of Surajpur and Korea
districts.
The tiger was caught on a trap camera while hunting a buffalo and a cow in the forests near Temri village. This is the first confirmed sighting of a tiger in the reserve since it was declared a Tiger Reserve.
The discovery has generated excitement among the forest department and local authorities, with the tiger having been observed roaming the area for the past four days. Villagers had been
claiming for over a month that a tiger was present in the Odgi and Kudargarh forest range, but this is the first time
the claims have been substantiated with photographic evidence.
The trap cameras, installed by the forest department near Temri due to its proximity to the reserve’s boundary, successfully captured clear images of the tiger.
This sighting marks a significant moment for the Guru Ghasidas National Park, which was previously part of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park during the undivided Madhya Pradesh era.
