Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced that innovative programmes pioneered by the Chhattisgarh government would soon be adopted in Tripura to improve the welfare of its tribal communities. Speaking to a group of media professionals from Chhattisgarh at his official residence in Agartala on Saturday evening, Dr. Saha highlighted that around 31% of Tripura’s population comprises tribal communities, for whom various developmental initiatives are underway.
Dr Saha noted that Tripura would send a team to Chhattisgarh to study these transformative programs to facilitate their implementation. He emphasized that these schemes, which have positively impacted tribal lives in Chhattisgarh, hold potential for similar success in Tripura.
Addressing concerns on religious conversion in Tripura, Dr. Saha asserted that no such activities are occurring under his administration.
Regarding militancy, he stated that Tripura, once troubled by insurgency, has now become a terror-free state, thanks to the peace accords facilitated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government with numerous militant groups across Northeast India.
Commenting on the economic impact of recent unrest in Bangladesh, Dr. Saha shared that Tripura’s tourism sector has been significantly affected, with reduced tourist inflow between the two countries. He reassured that the government is carefully monitoring the situation to prevent any potential communal tension from arising due to the unrest.
The BJP-led Tripura government is prioritizing law and order, alongside improvements in health, education, and tourism. With an eye on sustainable economic development, Tripura aims to create income opportunities and promote self-reliance among its residents. Key sectors driving this growth include the development of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), tourism, information technology, and skills training.
Agriculture and food processing are also emphasized, with favorable conditions allowing for the cultivation of major crops like pineapple, jackfruit, cashew,
