Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday laid the foundation stone of water supply scheme worth Rs 56.78 crore for Bhatgaon Nagar Panchayat of Surajpur district through video conferencing from Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, on Wednesday. Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Administration and Development Department Minister Arun Sao virtually attended the programme. The work of this water supply scheme, approved under Amrit Mission 2.0, will be completed in the next two years.
 
MLAs Dharamlal Kaushik, Dharamjeet Singh, Sushant Shukla, Jila Panchayat President Arun Singh and others also virtually attended the programme. Addressing the programme, Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao said that after the launch of this new water supply scheme, the problem of drinking water of residents from Bhatgaon would be addressed. The water of the Mahanadi will be cleaned and supplied to homes. After the completion of the scheme, the people of Bhatgaon will be able to get 135 litres of water per person per day as per the national standard. Sao said that the BJP created the state of Chhattisgarh and the responsibility of its development is also ours.
 
He directed the concerned officials to complete all the construction works related to the scheme with high quality and within the time limit. In this water supply scheme costing Rs 56.78 crore, approved under Mission Amrit 2.0, drinking water will be supplied to Bhatgaon by constructing an intake well in the Gonda anicut of the Mahanadi river. Through raw-water pipeline from Anicut, surface water will be purified in the water purification plant proposed under the scheme and clean drinking water will be made available to Bhatgaon town. At present, 49 litres of water is available per person per day in Bhatgaon town. After the launch, 135 litres of drinking water per person per day will be provided there. Under the Bhatgaon Water Supply Scheme, two MLD capacity water purification plants, three high level reservoirs of total 750 kilo litre capacity, 64 km distribution pipeline and 3586 private tap connections will be provided.
