THE Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) in Bilaspur found itself in chaos during a surprise inspection by Collector Awanish Kumar Sharan. Tensions soared when a distressed relative of a patient accused doctors and nurses of neglect, threatening to transfer the patient to another facility. “They don’t even come to check on him!” the relative exclaimed, reflecting frustration that reverberated through the hospital. The Collector issued an urgent warning to the Dean and Medical Superintendent to take immediate action. According to information received here, this inspection comes ahead of a pivotal court hearing regarding CIMS scheduled for October 10. Collector Sharan has been conducting thorough assessments to ensure compliance with medical standards.

He directed that the malfunctioning lift near the operating theatre be repaired within two days and addressed pervasive cleanliness issues and leaks throughout the hospital. The Collector was quick to identify inadequate air conditioning in the casualty ward, insisting on immediate repairs. His inquiries into staff knowledge of ward locations revealed a concerning lack of awareness. During the inspection of the maternity ward, water was found leaking from the ceiling, prompting immediate action from PWD officials. His scrutiny extended to the orthopedic ward, where he questioned the frequency of bed sheet changes and demanded accountability from the cleaning supervisor and contractor. Engaging directly with patients, the Collector sought assurance regarding their treatment experiences. The absence of municipal representatives during this crucial inspection raised concerns, leading to the late arrival of SE Rajkumar Mishra, who received directives to address drainage and boundary wall issues. Present during the inspection were CIMS Dean Dr Ramanesh Murti, M S Dr R K Das, and other officials.
