DR ABHAY Bang, a renowned
Gandhian health expert and the
Founder-DirectorofSEARCH (Society
for Education, Action and Research
inCommunityHealth) in Gadchiroli,
Maharashtra, has been awarded the
prestigious Badshah Khan Memorial
Award for 2024 by ITM University,
Gwalior.
The award recognises Dr Bang’s
remarkable contributions to human
service, particularly his work in revolutionising healthcare for the poorest communities in India.
DrBangisbestknown forhisHomeBased Newborn and Child Care
(HBNCC)programme,whichhas significantly reducedinfantmortalityin
underdeveloped regions.
This
approach has been acknowledgedby
WHO and UNICEF and is implemented across India under the Asha
Yojana.
The award ceremony, part of ITM
University’s tradition of honouring
social change-makers, celebrated Dr
Bang’s dedication to Sarvodaya and
Gandhian ideals.
He has received numerous accolades, including the Padma Shri, and
continues his work with the support
of his family and 150 associates at
