Kawardha district in Chhattisgarh’s Kabirdham district, recently witnessed a deeply moving farewell as the local community came together to bid an emotional goodbye to ‘Dulaarin’, a cow cherished by Raju Pandey’s family for over 20 years. Pandey, a resident of Ward No-1, behind Gayatri Mandir in Kawardha town, organised a grand funeral procession for ‘Dulaarin’, who passed away after a long illness. The emotional farewell, complete with a full band and traditional rituals, was attended by hundreds of local residents. ‘Dulaarin’s body was adorned with flowers, placed on a beautifully decorated vehicle and escorted through the streets. Mourners, many of whom were overcome with emotion, tearfully followed the procession as religious hymns were sung, reflecting the immense respect and bond that Pandey’s family and the entire community shared with the cow.

In his heartfelt parting statement, Raju Pandey said, “She was more than just a cow; she was like a family member. It is our responsibility to treat our animals with the same respect as humans,” as he performed the final rites with his family. Local religious leaders also participated in the ceremony, offering blessings to ‘Dulaarin’. The incident has gained significant attention on social media platforms like X, Facebook and Instagram, where videos of the funeral procession have gone viral.
