Citizen ‘run’ to create voter awareness at ‘Votethon’

Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and District Administration jointly organised ‘Votethon’, a voter awareness run as per Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SWEEP) that started from Yeshwant Stadium on Saturday morning. The run was organised to spread awareness about voting among citizens and increase the voter percentage in the city in upcoming Assembly elections. Bhor Singh, Sunil Kumar, and Pavankumar Sinha, Nagpur’s Election observers; Dr Ravinder Kumar Singal, Police Commissioner; Dr Abhijeet Chaudhari, Municipal Commissioner and Administrator, NMC; Dr Vipin Itankar, District Collector and District Election Officer; Vinayak Mahamuni, Chief Executive Officer, Zilla Parishad; Anchal Goyal, and Ajay Charthankar, Additional Municipal Commissioners flagged off the run at Yeshwant stadium. Dr Ranjana Lande, Deputy Commissioner, NMC; Kapil Kalode, Dr Kailas Ghodke, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, ZP; Sukeshani Telgote, Assistant Commissioner, Social Welfare; Pallavi Dhatrak, District Sports officer; Milind Meshram, Prakash Varade, Ganesh Rathod, Vijay Deshmukh, Dr Gajendra Mahalle, Deputy Municipal Commissioners; Sadhana Sayyam, Education Officer; Dr Dipak Selokar, Medical Health Officer; and Dr Piyush Ambulkar, Sports Officer, were present along with others. At the onset, all people present at the programme took the oath to vote in upcoming elections. Vinayak Mahamuni lead the oath taking ceremony. Students, lady cadets of Police Training center, officers of public and private establishments, and citizens celebrated in huge numbers in the awareness run along with children and senior citizens. The event also featured programmes like Zumba, Dance, running, fun walk, fancy dress to attract the voters. Amit Sports Academy’s Yoga players performed various yoga exercises that awed the participants of the run. Dr Singal, in his address, appealed the citizens to come forward and vote in large numbers and also motivate others also for casting their votes. Dr Abhijeet Chaudhari said that the city has always been known for leading the good causes. Every citizen is icon of administration and they should vote in upcoming elections in large numbers. Dr Vipin Itankar asked the citizens to vote in large numbers to achieve 75% polling in upcoming elections. Vinayak Mahamuni, Suvarna Raj, and all election observers also appealed citizens to caste their votes in elections.
