The Department of Pediatrics and Neonatology organised a a workshop on ‘New Techniques to Reduce Mechanical Ventilation in the Premature Newborn’ at New Academic Block, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College (NSCBMC). It may be mentioned that Madhya Pradesh has the highest neonatal mortality rate in India and premature birth, is the most common cause of neonatal death. Dr Boris Kramer, Professor from University of Poznan, Poland, international speaker who was present as keynote speaker, discussed about ‘Interventions for reduction of premature mortality and morbidity’. He taught the new technique of surfactant administration: LISA. Another speaker, Dr Nodira Kashimov, a neonatologist from Tashkent, Uzbekistan discussed advances in management of neonatal sepsis which is another cause of neonatal deaths.

 

Dr Jaya Upadhyaya, DM Neonatology and Associate Professor NSCB Medical College discussed delivery room CPAP and said that use of these technologies will significantly reduce mortality and morbidity in premature infants. The workshop was organized under the direction and guidance of Dean Professor Navneet Saxena, Director, Super Specialty Hospital, Dr Awadhesh Pratap Singh, Head of Department of Pediatrics Professor Dr Monica Lazarus and President, Jabalpur Academy of Pediatrics, Dr Avyakt Agarwal. Faculty members Dr Shweta Pathak, Dr Jaya Upadhyay, Dr Nancy Sahu, Dr Lalit Malviya, Dr Rashmi Parihar and resident doctors Dr Shruti, Dr Shaunak Rangadh and Dr Jayas Jagan rendered remarkable support to make the workshop successful.
