Two top Excise officials caught accepting Rs 3.5 lakh bribe

 

In a major breakthrough, sleuths of Lokayukta Police Jabalpur nabbed Assistant Excise Commissioner and Assistant District Excise Officer while taking bribe of Rs 3.50 lakh from a liquor shop contractor at Excise Depot Seoni district, on Tuesday. The accused have been identified as Shailesh Kumar Jain, Assistant Excise Commissioner, Seoni district and Pawan Kumar Jharia, Assistant District Excise Officer, English Liquor Depot, Seoni. Association of Lokayukta SP Jabalpur, an appellant named Rakesh Kumar Sahu (57), son of Basant Lal Sahu, resident of Khaira Palari Tigadda in Seoni district lodged a complaint that he is operating total nine liquor shops of three syndicate groups in Seoni district. Assistant Excise Commissioner, Shailesh Kumar Jain was illegally demanding Rs 5 lakh per month for fluently operating the liquor shops.

 

The officer directed him for paying Rs 3.50 lakh to Assistant District Excise Officer, Pawan Kumar Jharia. The appellant contacted to Pawan Kumar Jharia who called him at English liquor depot Seoni for the payment. Acting on the complaint, SP, Lokayukta constituted a team and fielded the appellant for collecting evidences. Once the information was confirmed a team of Lokayukta Police Jabalpur trapped the accused while taking bribe of Rs 3.50 lakh from the appellant at English Liquor Depot Seoni. Lokayukta police have registered a case against the corrupt government employee under relevant Sections of Prevention of Corruption Act while further investigations are underway. The accused was trapped with active working of Lokayukta police team led by DSP, Neetu Tripathi, Inspectors, Naresh Behra, Kamal Singh Uike and others. The trap was conducted by Lokayukta police team led by DSP, Dilip Jharbade comprised of Inspector, Manju Kiran Tirkey, Inspector, Kamal Singh Uike, Inspector, Naresh Behra and other members.
