A 26-YEAR-OLD woman was raped and murdered and the body was found near the MIDC bus stand at Umred on Monday morning. According to police, the woman was studying at BA II year and living with her brother and mother, who works as an agriculture worker. The woman left her house on Sunday morning and told her mother that she was going for a college camp and would return only in the evening.

 

When the woman did not return home, her mother phoned her and she stated that she is currently at Bramhapuri, around 50 km from Umred, and she would not return home. A man also spoke to her mother and told her that he would not allow her daughter to return home. On Monday at 9.30 am, the body of the woman was found near the MIDC bus stop in Umred. Passers-by informed the police. Umred police rushed to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. Officials of Umred police station said that as per the primary opinion of the doctors, the woman was strangled to death and there is sign of sexual assault. The police also found a written note on her right hand palm - “Lokesh ne insta war rape kela majha.” Superintendnet of Police (SP) Dr Harssh Poddar and officials of Local Crime Branch rushed to the spot and began investigaton. The police are trying hard to nab the culprit involved in the murder case. A case of murder and rape has been registered by Umred Police.
