Deepotsav delight: Narmada’s banks glitter in light of 51,000 lamps

At the sacred banks of river Narmada in Gwarighat, Sanskardhani witnessed ‘Narmada Deepotsav’, a breathtaking and grand celebration on the eve of Diwali, on Wednesday night. The riverbanks were adorned with 51,000 diyas (clay lamps), creating a mesmerizing sight. Adding to the evening’s grandeur were a laser show themed on Sanatan Dharma (eternal tradition) and pollution-free fireworks, captivated the crowd gathered for the event. In the holy presence of saints, devotees lit lamps along the banks and prayed for the prosperity of Jabalpur. Speaking on the occasion, State PWD Minister Rakesh Singh said that inspired by the blessings of Maa Narmada and the guidance of revered saints, this annual celebration has now entered its third year. He expressed that each lamp, as it was lit, illuminated the essence of tradition, culture, values and principles.
 
"We are followers of the Sanatani tradition, where lighting a lamp marks the beginning of any auspicious activity. Our most cherished five-day festival, Diwali, itself celebrates light, joy and festivity. It was in this spirit that we decided three years ago to commence the Deepotsav at Maa Narmada’s banks”. He said with everyone’s support, the banks of Maa Narmada were adorned with 51,000 lamps. Singh said, after centuries of waiting, January 22, 2024 marked the grand consecration of Lord Shri Ram at His temple, filling the country with a renewed spirit of joy and unity this Diwali. Prominent amongst those participated in the programme were Rajya Sabha MP Sumitra Valmiki, MLAs Ashok Rohani and Abhilash Pandey, Mayor Jagat Bahadur Singh, former MLA Sharad Jain, Swati Godbole, the Collector, SP and numerous BJP workers.
