7,000 cops, 7 companies of reserved forces, 1,400 homeguards deployed for election bandobast

 

 

As the city prepares for voting on Wednesday, the police force has ramped up security measures to ensure peaceful voting. The City Police has deployed a large number of police personnel across 4,610 polling booths in both the city and rural areas, starting from Tuesday evening. The authorities are also closely monitoring the activities of political leaders and their workers in coordination with Election Commission teams. Special attention is being given to sensitive booths identified by the Election Commission. Commissioner of Police (CP) Dr Ravinder Kumar Singal, stressed that the police have stepped up vigilance since the code of conduct took effect. In the past month, preventive actions were taken against 1,733 anti-socials, and 105 criminals were externed from the city limit. Additionally, nine criminals were detained under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act. Police have confiscated 11 firearms and seized illegal liquor worth Rs 14 lakh. CP Singal reassured the public that the force is fully prepared to handle any potential disturbances. “We have deployed officers at every polling station and formed strike forces with top officials in all assembly constituencies,” Singal said. “Patrolling will be conducted throughout the day, and anyone who attempts to disrupt the election process or break the law will face strict consequences. We are also utilising NSS and NCC students to assist in ensuring a smooth voting experience.”

 

 

 

In the rural areas, Superintendent of Police Dr Harssh Poddar reported that 14 cases of violation of MCC have been registered in the past month. Additionally, the rural police have taken preventive action against 1,069 criminals. The police have externed 13 criminals linked to gangs, and 26 other offenders have also been banned from the area. As part of their efforts, the rural police have seized goods worth Rs 3.41 crore, including liquor valued at Rs 1.69 crore. “We have taken extra precautions around strong rooms in the rural areas, which are under tight security,” Poddar explained. “No one will be allowed near these facilities. Furthermore, we are initiating legal proceedings to seize the properties of 25 absconding criminals. A total of 696 licensed firearms have been deposited.” Poddar urged citizens not to fall for rumors and to maintain a calm and peaceful atmosphere during the election period.
