Income Tax sleuths are conducting raids at seven premises of two city-based finance brokers. A team of about 35 staff members and senior officers of the department are conducting the raids at residents and offices of the brokers at Civil Lines and Wardhaman Nagar. The raids were ongoing at the time of filing of this report. It was also learnt that the officers will continue the raid on November 20.
The Income Tax sleuths recovered cash, jewellery and other valuables from the brokers.
Apart from this, the Income Tax officers also broke open bank lockers of the persons.
Sources told ‘The Hitavada’ that the raids are being conducted as the search operation in connection with the recent seizure of cash in Mumbai. Sources said the two finance brokers - Bunty Agrawal and Sanjay Kanoria, were connected with the cash seized in Mumbai. It is important to note that the Income Tax sleuths started the raids at about 9 am in the morning against its normal timing of 6-7 am.
Senior officers from the Income Tax Department from Mumbai and Pune were also part of the team conducting the raids in the city.
