For the first time, elephant radio collared in State

A male wild elephant of Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve area of Umaria district was successfully fitted with a satellite radio collar on Wednesday. After wearing the radio collar, the wild elephant was released in room number 332 of Beat Damna of Range Tala of Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve. Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve Area Director, Assistant Director, Wildlife Health Officer, Saket Bhale of WWF, Dr. Shubhankar, Dr Prashant Deshmukh of WCT and experts were present at the time of radio collaring of the wild elephant.
 
Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Wildlife L Krishnamurthy said that radio collaring of a wild elephant has been done for the first time in Madhya Pradesh. He said that this would be an important step in the study of the movement, behavior and habitat of elephants. It is noteworthy that the said wild elephant was rescued from Beat Forest Chachar of Forest Range Jaisingh Nagar, North Shahdol on March 2, 2024.
