Wedding season, birthdays and other events lift demand for bouquets

Business Reporter The marriage season is on! From winter to summer, the people of Nagpur experience a vibrant line-up of weddings, receptions, special programmes and glittering events. Bouquets are a means of expressing ones feeling towards others. Going to these events and gifting a bouquet is the trend. Florists are smiling these days as they listen to their cash registers ringing.
 
They are witnessing a three-fold jump in demand of bouquets as the wedding season starts. The trend of gifting is rising as the younger generation prefers giving bouquets on special occasion like weddings, receptions, birthdays, special programmes, anniversaries among other functions. “We are receiving an overwhelming response as the bouquet demand is spiking more than three-fold with the start of the marriage season,” said Unnati Rananaware, owner of Aroma Flowers Corner, Manish Nagar while talking to
 
The Hitavada. Unnati further said that the bouquet demand is very high in the city from November to March. For florists the wedding season is the most important celebration in getting business. The bouquets are available from Rs 200 to Rs 5,000, depending on the quality, quantity and requirement of the customer. A large variety of exotic natural flowers are used to make bouquets like Orchid, Calla Lily, Anthurium, Bird of Paradise, Celosia, Lily of the Valley, Hyacinths, Tulip, Dutch Rose, Eustema, Auster, Oriental Lily, Coronation, Banana Flowers (Musa), Bindweed, Bull Thistle, Calathea, Lillium etc.
 
These flowers are mainly sourced from Bangalore and Delhi. Apart from this, florists offer a wide-range of services like flower baskets, floral arrangements, cake delivery, acrylic tags etc. For weddings florists provide services like haldi and mehandi set-up, stage set-up, garlands, floral jewellery, bride entry decor, car decoration, bridal sheet, toran, balloon decoration, baby naming ceremony, welcome baby and proposal set-up among other things. “People are willing to spend more for customised services. Some of the prominent florists have established contacts with service providers that deliver a host services with utmost care and punctuality.
 
“Preparing a bouquet is no easy task. A lot of intricate work and different material goes into making them. It is time consuming and requires people with a flair for creativity,” she mentioned. Piyush Rajankar, owner of Fragrance Flowers, Ramdaspeth said that the city is expanding all around and the number of weddings, functions and programmes are rising. As the city grows, the business is growing. When the wedding season starts after Diwali the demand for bouquets multiplies three to four-fold. Rajankar who has been in this business for the past 35 years said that the bouquets average price starts from Rs 300 to Rs 1,500. Apart from the marriage season, when a large number of VIPs come to the city especially during the Winter Assembly. At that time the demand for bouquets shoots up. Florists also offer special delivery services for the bouquets any where in the city and country, he pointed out. Sanjay Hirulkar, owner of Sanjay Florist, Laxminagar said that the demand for bouquets augments multifold as the wedding season starts. Although a large number of social and religious ceremonies take place throughout the year, natural flowers are an essential part of decorations and offerings for religious festivities, funerals, and festivals. Similarly, flowers are increasingly being used to enhance the ambiance of events, hotels, and public spaces. “All these factors play an important role in pushing the demand for bouquets in the city,” he added.
