A total of 28 candidates forfeited their security deposits in the Raipur City South Legislative Assembly by-election. The vote counting for the constituency was conducted peacefully on Saturday at the Government Engineering College, Sejbahar, Raipur. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Sunil Soni secured a decisive victory with a margin of 46,082 votes. Out of 2,71,169 registered voters in the constituency—which included 1,33,800 men, 1,37,317 women, and 52 persons from the third gender—1,36,948 votes were cast, resulting in a voter turnout of 50.50%. Of the 28 candidates contesting, only the BJP and Congress candidates managed to secure at least one-sixth of the total valid votes, while the others lost their security deposits. National Congress garnered 42,977 votes. 1,145 votes were cast for NOTA (None of the Above). Among other candidates, Akhilesh Brahmdev secured 229 votes, Ankush Bariyekar 680, and Champalal Patel 127. Neeraj Saini Pujari polled 111 votes, Farid Qureshi 26, and Mazhar Iqbal 44. Manish Kumar Thakur secured 105 votes, Ramkumar Ajgale 72, Vikram Advani 64, and Savita Shailendra Banjare 52 votes, Abdul Azim (54 votes), Ashish Pandey (126), Chandraprakash Kurre (331), Jayant Agrawal (475), and Jitendra Sharma (388). Sheikh Jainad Begam obtained 195 votes, Mohammad Nasir 37, and Neeraj Dubey 22. Nandani Nayak polled 45 votes, Prakash Kumar Urao 27, Manish Shrivastava 20, Sayyad Muslim 78, and Ravi Kumar Sriwas 94. Radheswari Gayakwad received 43 votes, Rizwana Parvin 25, Shabista Khan 54, Mohammad Shan Ahmad 53, and Sushma Agrawal 190. Following this victory, the BJP’s strength in the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly stands at 54 MLAs, while the Congress has 35 MLAs, and the Gondwana Gantantra Party has one MLA.
