Assistant Commissioner of Excise Department, Shailesh Jain and Assistant District Excise Officer, Pawan Jharia, who were caught taking a bribe of Rs 3.50 lakh from a liquor contractor in Seoni district, were transferred to the Excise Commissioner’s Office Gwalior on Friday evening.
Deputy Secretary of Commercial Tax Department, Vandana Sharma mentioned in the order issued that the special team of Lokayukta Jabalpur had registered a case against both the officers under various sections of the Corruption Act. After which Shailesh Jain and Jharia have been transferred to Gwalior with immediate effect.
The Lokayukta team had taken action on November 12 in the foreign liquor warehouse located at Seoni district headquarters. The team has also made Assistant Commissioner of the department, Shailesh Jain an accused in the case. Bribe was demanded for operating nine shops. Liquor contractor of the district, Rakesh Kumar Sahu operates nine liquor shops. Both the excise officers had demanded Rs. 5 lakh every month for operating these shops. After the complaint, the Lokayukta Jabalpur team caught Rakesh Kumar giving Rs. 3.5 lakh to Assistant District Excise Officer, Pawan Kumar Jharia in a planned manner. This amount was taken on the instructions of Assistant Commissioner Shailesh Jain.
