Congress’ Vikas Thakre emerged victorious once again from the Nagpur West Assembly segment by defeating Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Sudhakar Kohale by 5,824 votes. A total of 1,249 voters chose ‘None of the Above’ (NOTA). This will be Thakre’s second term representing Nagpur West.
The counting took place at St Francis De Sales College in Seminary Hills, where a large number of party workers had gathered from the morning. A significant number of police personnel were deployed for security arrangements. Throughout the counting process, Thakre’s supporters were confident about his victory, as he maintained the lead. When the 26th and final round was announced, it became clear that Thakre was the winner, and his supporters began celebrating.
Thakre received 104,144 votes across 26 rounds, while his rival, Sudhakar Kohale, garnered 98,320 votes. Congress’s expelled leader and Independent candidate Narendra Jichkar received just 8,166 votes. Bahujan Samaj Party’s Prakash Gajbhiye received 3,482 votes, and Yash Gaurkhede of Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi secured 1,471 votes.
