Home voting facilities are being offered to elderly and disabled voters in the Raipur South Assembly constituency for the 2024 by-election from November 5 to 7.
This initiative aims to make voting more accessible to citizens aged 85 and above, allowing them to cast their ballots from the comfort of their homes.
On Tuesday, the polling team visited 98-year-old Vitana Gupta at her residence on Malviya Road, where she voted via ballot paper. Gupta, a lifelong voter, shared that her advancing age had made it increasingly difficult to visit polling stations. She expressed her appreciation for the
home voting option provided by the Election Commission of India.
Similarly, Hemant Barchiha, a differently-abled voter from Tikrapara, also took advantage of the home voting facility.
He explained, “Walking is very challenging for me, and going to the polling station was always a struggle. This new provision of voting at home is a relief, and I am grateful to the Election Commission for making it possible.”
Rukmani Bai Tiwari, a resident of Nayapara, was another beneficiary of the home voting service. “Due to my old age, it was difficult for me to go to the polling booth, but today, the polling team came to my house, and I was able to vote without any issues. This has made me extremely happy,” she said.
At Banjari Mata Chowk, Kamla Sahu, another voter aged over 85, also cast her vote at home, thanks to the Election Commission’s initiative.
