Food and Safety Department conducted a raid at Krishi Upaj Mandi (KUM) and seized two quintals of garlic suspected of being Chinese garlic. The department is now investigating the source of the garlic and whether this type of garlic has been used earlier in Jabalpur. The Food Safety Department has inspected five shops in the market, with the garlic being seized from Baabusalam & Company store printed with Process of Chinese on its sack. A sample of the seized garlic has been sent to Bhopal laboratory for further testing.

According to information, Pankaj Srivastava, District Food Safety Officer, along with his team, reached the Agricultural Produce Market on Friday. The team conducted inspections of various shops dealing in potatoes, onions, and garlic. During inspection of Baabusalam & Company, the team held doubt on garlic stored at the shop. During checking, they found sacks of garlic were labelled as “Process of Chinese Garlic”. Further investigation revealed that the store had a bill addressed to a person named Arvind Kumar. The food safety officers discovered 14 sacks containing seized garlic, with an estimated value of approximately Rs 1.5 lakh. The shop was selling the Patan Sub-Jail, which has led to the entry of women and labourers from outside. Authorities suspect that the escape plan may have been coordinated with the help of an outsider who was involved in the jailbreak during this period. Currently, both the prisoners are receiving medical treatment in jail for their injuries. Meanwhile, the Jail Superintendent, Akhilesh Tomar reached at Patan Sub-Jail to monitor the investigations.
