After a long pause, the world famous traditional silk sarees have set the fashion scene on fire this wedding season. All forms of pure silk sarees in traditional look have made a stylish comeback. Kanjivaram, Paithani, Banarsi, Ikkat, Panchampalli, Gadwal, Organza, Chanderi, Maheshwari and various other forms of silk sarees are trending this wedding season.
There is a craze among women to buy a new saree on every special occasion. Women have this burning desire to be the centre of attraction, look like a queen, star or glamorous personality, has brought a wave of innovations in designs and styles that eventually set the pace for phenomenal growth of the saree industry.
Amol Nilawar, owner of Nilawar Saree, located at Sitabuldi said, “The popularity of traditional pure silk sarees is rising among the women this wedding season. Specially, the Kanjivaram, Paithani and Banarsi silk sarees that are available in a rainbow of colours, styles and forms.”
The Indian saree is considered as one of the most beautiful attire for women in the world. These saree are created by expert craftsmen encrypted with their signature, passion and intricate work have won the hearts of women not just in India but also the world.
The pure silk sarees are being preferred by women as it offers a rich graceful and radiant look.
They are also, lightweight and comfortable to wear. The gorgeous silk sarees worn with bangles and jewellery and other accessories create a ever lasting image. These are
some of the reasons why these sarees are preferred by women. The pure silk sarees are available from Rs 8,000 onwards. The silk saree price in non-pure form starts from Rs 2,000. Some of the silk sarees created in zari work are with a price tag of Rs 40,000 and above.
Apart from this, ready to wear blouse with saree is mostly preferred by the younger generation. Because they are easy to wear and alterations in size can be made quickly by the tailor. Its price range starts from Rs 2,000 to Rs 7,000. A huge fancy range in trendy vibrant colours and Indo-western designs are available adding to its popularity.
Jumana Shakir, apparel designer and owner of Zahara Design Creation and Banarasi Style saree showroom, Nelson Square, said that the traditional weaves like pure Kataan Silk, Munga, Raw Mango, Kora and Tissue Silk have made a comeback this season. While the traditional Banarasi continues to be an all time favourite, innovations like Banarasi Bandhej or Banarasi with Paithani designs add to the style and elegance. Lucknowi Chikankari has also caught the fancy of people. Embroidery with cut work, Parsi Gara embroidery, tissue patchwork with embellishments are the new trends in embroidery. The emphasis is on embroidered blouses and ready-to-wear sarees are much in demand.
This wedding season, in fact is all about clothes and about style and cuts.
Shailaja Prasad, a leading garment designer and owner of Rags Boutique, located at Ram Nagar said, “Exclusive pure silk sarees in traditional look is trending this season. Currently, the younger generation are looking for garments that blend heritage with functionality. They want garments that make a statement but also reflect their individuality and contemporary style.
Nakul Jain, Director of Wada, Itwari said that in recent years, pure silk sarees have made a return this wedding season. Earlier, designer sarees in contemporary look dominated the fashion scene, but now, silk sarees in traditional look is trending among the consumers.
Vinay Khemchandani, Director of Saree Niketan, Dharampeth and Satish Khemchandani, Director of Satish Saree, Sitabuldi both felt that the pure silk sarees have strongly come back in fashion these days. Silk sarees created with age-old traditions combined new designer creations are making waves this wedding season.
“There is nothing more graceful to wear for a women than a silk saree which looks rich, stylish and suitable for any special occasion,” Vinay pointed out.
Sachin Mulani, Director of Sanskruti saree store, highlighted that all forms of traditional silk sarees have made a revival this wedding season. Pure silk sarees are gaining popularity because they are trendy. Women have realised that there is nothing more beautiful than the Indian silk saree that can be passed down from mother to daughter without being damaged. “Even after 20 years, pure silk saree remains the same. Its shine, brilliance and dazzling colours do not fade away. Whereas, western clothes fade and deteriorate over time. A pure silk creation can instantly make a women look festive-ready with its graceful appeal,” he added.
