In a significant crackdown against expired items on sale, the Food Safety Department on Sunday took action against an outlet in Kohefiza was selling paneer which expired on November 28. As per information, a complaint was received from a consumer regarding sale of expired paneer. In response, the Food Safety Administration immediately conducted an inspection of the retail store located in Kohefiza.
On gathering information from the spot, it was discovered that the store employees had concealed 13 packets of 200 grams each of paneer, which had expired on November 28.
Food safety officers located all the concealed packets, collected samples of the paneer for quality testing, and seized remaining nine packets.
As per the Food Safety and Standards (Labeling and Display) Regulations, 2020, Section 2(1)(c), food products should only be sold within their best-before date. During inspection, it was found that paneer was being sold 2 days past the best-before date at Kohefiza Reliance store. Following this finding, action was taken under the guidance of the designated officer, Devendra Kumar Verma, including the collection of samples and the seizure of the expired products.
