National Mathematics Day programme concludes at RDU

The closing ceremony of the three-day National Mathematics Day programme was organized on Friday in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of the University in presence of Vice-chancellor, Rani Durgavati University, Professor Rajesh Kumar Verma as chief guest. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Verma said that to become relevant, there should be a better understanding of mathematics because it helps to achieve excellence in any field. Referring to various fears related to the subject, he said that if we dedicate ourselves and invest time and energy to mathematics, it will become interesting and easy to understand.
 
Present as special guest, Professor Akhilesh Kumar Pandey, former Vice-Chancellor, Vikram University, Ujjain, said that discussions on the life history and contributions of Srinivas Ramanujan along with the applications of mathematics will inspire young students to explore career options in mathematics. Guest of honour, Professor Rakesh Bajpayee, Head of the Department of Physics, said that this day is not only a tribute to the person who made an unparalleled contribution to the world of mathematics, but also a celebration of the discipline that continues to shape our understanding of the universe. Registrar Professor Rajendra Kuraria said that mathematics and other subjects need proper attention as such subjects play an important role in society. Keynote speaker, Professor SS Thakur said that mathematics is a universal language and we need to change our mindset by adopting creative methods and new techniques in teaching mathematics to young students. Professor, PV Jain, former Professor of Mathematics Department and Dr. Nilesh Chandra Pandey also enriched the participants’ knowledge with their rich experiences and knowledge. The outline of the program was presented by the University Mathematics Department Head Professor JK Maitra.The concluding ceremony was marked by prize distribution programme during which the meritorious students were awarded at the hands of invited dignitaries.
