In a major crackdown on illegal liquor transportation, Bhopal Police seized 170 cartons of Goa whisky and rum, amounting to approximately 1,530 litres of contraband. The total estimated value of the liquor and the vehicle used in its transport is around Rs 21 lakh.
Acting on a tip off, the police intercepted a pickup vehicle near Anand Nagar Police Chowki on the night of December 20. The driver, Rahul Gurjar, confirmed that the vehicle contained illegal liquor and failed to
produce valid documents for the alcohol.
Upon inspection, the vehicle was found to be carrying 170 khaki-coloured cartons marked Goa, with each carton containing 50 quarters of liquor, each quarter holding 180 ml.
The total quantity of illegal liquor was estimated to be worth Rs 11.47 lakh. Following this, the vehicle was seized, and a case under Section 34(2) of the Excise Act was registered against the driver. Rahul Gurjar, a resident of Khajuri Kalan in Bhopal, was arrested, and further investigations are underway to identify the source and destination of the illicit liquor, as well as any other individuals involved in the operation.
The police are also gathering information from the Regional Transport Office (RTO) regarding the ownership of the
vehicle. Efforts are being made to determine how long this illegal transportation activity has been ongoing.
