Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched a large-scale anti-encroachment drive, removing illegal structures from several areas of the city, including T.T. Nagar Dussehra Maidan. The operation was carried out by the BMC’s Anti-Encroachment Squad, which removed sheds and awnings from approximately 200 kiosks/stalls. Using JCB machines, the squad dismantled these unauthorized structures and seized items such as pushcarts, counters, boards, iron pipes, angles, and tin sheets.
TT Nagar SDM Archana Sharma was present on-site and explained that the encroachments in this area were causing significant traffic congestion.
She pointed out that several automobile shops were blocking the roads with parked vehicles,
leading to traffic jams.
Despite complaints from residents, shopkeepers had been unwilling to cooperate, prompting the authorities to take action.
In addition to the action at T.T. Nagar, other teams from the Anti-Encroachment Squad took action at various locations across the city, removing unauthorized structures and junk vehicles. A total of around 10 truckloads of goods were seized.
Before carrying out the operations, the BMC made announcements and personally appealed to encroachers to remove their belongings voluntarily. After the removal, the encroachers were also warned not to return to the same locations and were informed that strict action would be taken if they did.
Following the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Harendra Narayan, the drive was conducted with the cooperation of district administration and traffic police.
At T.T. Nagar Dussehra Maidan, approximately 200 shops and kiosks had set up unauthorized sheds and awnings, which were removed with the help of JCB machines and workers. Items such as carts, counters, boards, iron pipes, and tin sheets were confiscated, and abandoned vehicles blocking the roads were also seized.
Moreover, the BMC’s action was extended to other parts of the city, including areas like Karod Chauraha, Subhash Nagar, MP Nagar, DB Mall, Banskhedi, Railway Station Platform No. 6, Alpna Tiraha, Subhash Colony, Shankar Garden, Kolar Road, Lalita Nagar, Ambedkar Sai Nath Colony, Kanha Kunj, Baghsewania, Piplaani, Ratnagiri, Ayodhya Bypass, Royal Market, Ashoka Garden, and other busy intersections. In these areas, the team removed a variety of encroachments such as illegal shops, stalls, tables, chairs, and benches.
The total amount of goods seized from these areas amounted to 10 truckloads.
The BMC also ensured that the encroachers were reminded of the legal consequences of continuing their unlawful activities, with a strong warning of future punitive measures if they violated the anti-encroachment laws again.
