IN a heart-wrenching incident, at least four villagers, including three women, lost their lives, while over 20 others sustained injuries when a goods carrier vehicle (407) overturned on a hilly stretch near Kandanar, about 47 kilometers from Bastar district headquarters, on Saturday afternoon. The accident, which occurred around 1 pm, left 12 of the injured in critical condition. They are currently undergoing treatment at the Medical College,Dimrapal.
As per information received, the ill-fated vehicle, carrying more than 30 villagers from Chandameta, was en route to Kolen for the weekly market.
While navigating the treacherous stretch between Kolen and Chandameta, the driver reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn. Tragically, one man and three women were killed on the spot. The remaining passengers, many of whom suffered serious injuries, were rushed to a local health centre, while the critically injured were transferred to the Medical College for advanced treatment.
Confirming the mishap, Additional Superintendent of Police Maheshwar Nag stated that the driver fled the scene after the accident, and efforts are underway to apprehend him. Police are investigating the cause of the mishap while extending aid to the victims and their families. Further details, including the identities of the deceased and injured, are awaited.
