The Department of English, Government VYT PG Autonomous college, Durg, recently formed its English Literary Association and the post graduate students were nominated as its office bearers. Head of the Department threw light on the aim of the Association and administered oath to the students nominated by Dr Tarlochan Kaur Sandhu, Asst Prof. Office-bearers of the association included Akash Soni, Soumya Reddy, Himani Sahu and Harsh Sahu. Two clubs were also formed under the leadership of Shreya Shukla and Sugandha Saxena. Dr Sandhu informed that under the aegis of the Literary club and the Cultural club various activities like book review/discussion, poetry recitation, impromptu, character analysis, dance, drama etc. will be organised. In collaboration three departments of Languages Hindi, English and Sanskrit, Poster making and Slogan writing competitions on the topic ‘Literature is a Mirror of Society’ were also organised on occasion. Dr Abhinesh Surana, the Head of the department of Hindi and Prof. Jainendra Diwan, the Head of the Department of Sanskrit expressed their views. Notably, Dr Shiela Vijay, Asstt Professor and Head of the Department of English (Govt Khubchand Baghel College, Bhilai-3), invited as Guest Speaker, delivered a lecture on ‘Indian Literature: A Mirror of Society.’ She talked in detail on Mulk Raj Anand, Dr Khushwant Singh, Salman Rushdie, Kamla Das, Arundhati Roy and Jhumpa Lahiri referring to their notable works. Faculty of English Dr Meena Maan, Dr Seema Panjwani, Dr Monika Sharma, Dr Rajshree Naidu and Dr Kundan Kumar Yadav whole heartedly supported to make the event successful.
