A special team comprising senior officials of Health Department of the Jabalpur Municipal Corporation took strict action against shopkeepers using plastic carry bags and other allied items along the banks of river Narmada. Municipal Commissioner Priti Yadav stated that the sale of plastic-coated bowls (dona) is completely banned in the areas surrounding the river Narmada. As part of the initiative, the special team inspected 25 shops at Gaurighat. During the inspection, seven shopkeepers were found selling plastic-coated bowls and other such items. Acting tough on the act, the officials impose fine of Rs 2,100 on erring shopkeepers. Assistant Health Officer Anil Bari informed that small shopkeepers who sale worship materials were also warned against violating the ban.
 
To promote compliance, 35 shopkeepers were provided with free paper-based bowls for use and were instructed to strictly avoid plastic-coated products. They were warned of further legal action in case of non-compliance. Senior officials said the Jabalpur Municipal Corporation is endeavouring hard to ensure adherence of eco-friendly practices to protect the river Narmada and its surrounding environment. Amongst those conducted the drive were Chief Health Inspector Monika Tumram, Health Inspector Aman Chourasia and supervisors Suresh Shamiyal, Rajesh Verma, Raj Arkhel, Rajendra Tiwari and others.
