Justice Purushendra Kaurav of Delhi High Court, a resident of Narsinghpur district, has been appointed as presiding officer of Unlawful Activities Prevention Tribunal in the Student Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) case. In this regard, after the request and seal of the President, the Central Justice and Law Department issued its notification. The Tribunal has been constituted on February 8. Recently, the Central Government has extended ban on SIMI organisation for 5 years.
 
Justice Kaurav, as the Presiding Officer, will examine whether there are sufficient reasons to declare SIMI organisation illegal or not. For this, Justice Kaurav will also go to the respective states and hear the cases. In the year 2017, he became the youngest person to hold the post of Advocate General. Justice Kaurav became High Court judge while he was Advocate General. After this, on June 2, 2022, he was transferred to Delhi High Court.
