Vegetable prices are expected to remain steady for some more weeks due to good supplies in the market. In the recent past unseasonable rains have extended the life of some of the standing crops, thus increasing supply in the wholesale market. It is seen that whenever rains come the climate becomes favorable for the crops and after 15 days the vegetable supply rises in the market. In such conditions, the vegetable prices are expected to remain steady for some more weeks. This was revealed by Ram Mahajan, Secretary, Mahatma Phule Adatiya Association while speaking to The Hitavada. Mahajan further said that the vegetable prices have fallen significantly due to good local supplies in the wholesale market. The local supplies that started from end December have resulted in a sharp drop in vegetable prices giving relief to households which are burdened by high inflation and cost of living.
In the wholesale market prices of green chillies are at Rs 25 per kg, coriander at Rs 15 to Rs 20 per kg, cabbage at Rs 12 per kg, cauliflower at Rs 30 per kg, brinjal at Rs 12 to 15 per kg, pumpkin at Rs 15 per kg, lady finger at Rs 35 per kg, shimla mirch at Rs 30 per kg, methi at Rs 20 per kg, lawki at Rs 8 to Rs 10 per kg, spinach at Rs 8 per kg, cucumber at Rs 20 per kg, carrot at Rs 30 per kg, bitter gourd at Rs 30 per kg, beans at Rs Rs 40 per kg, tomato at Rs 15 to Rs 20 per kg and lemon at Rs 450 to Rs 500 per 100 pieces, he added. About 80 to 100 tempos and autos are unloading the vegetables at the Mahatma Phule wholesale vegetable market. With good supplies coming to the market the vegetable prices are expected to remain stable until the new crop arrives in April, Mahajan added.
