Predicting a significant boost in tourism and business travel in the strategically located Orange City, entrepreneurs have lined up huge investments in the hospitality sector here. Nearly 12 to 13 international and domestic players have either begun construction of their new properties or are on the verge of launching hotels to take the total room capacity of the city from existing 1,500 to 3,000 within the next two years. Upscale brands like Hilton’s DoubleTree; and Indian Hotels Company’s (IHCL) Ginger brand; to slew of domestic players including Sanjay Gupta-owned Ashok Group and Tejinder Singh Renu-owned Hotel Balbir Inn Private Limited are expanding their base in the city to offer luxurious stay options. Meanwhile, mid-range and budget hotels are also expanding their presence, ensuring affordability for diverse travelers. This expansion represents a major leap for Nagpur’s hotel industry and the influx of new players will significantly enhance the city’s accommodation options, offering a wider range of choices for travelers. Besides, this boom is expected to create significant employment opportunities in the hospitality sector, further contributing to the local economy. Additionally, the increased competition is likely to benefit travelers by driving down prices and improving service standards.
“The growth is driven by several factors,” said Sanjay Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director of Ashok Group, a prominent hotelier in the city. “Nagpur’s strategic location as a central hub in India, coupled with improved infrastructure and connectivity, is attracting more businesses and tourists. Additionally, the development of key sectors like IT and manufacturing is creating a demand for quality accommodation,” he said. Gupta further added that availability of nearly 3,000 hotel room capacity in the city will bring down the room tariff to a reasonable level. Interestingly, the travelers find hotel room charges in the city quite expensive, especially during the peak season. Ashok Group is coming up with a five star hotel at Chhatrapati Square. Construction of the hotel is going on in full swing and it is likely to open its door for the visitors within 20 to 24 months. In addition to this, the group is also building two hotels in Laxmi Nagar. Tejinder Singh Renu, Director of Hotel Balbir Inn Private Limited, said his group is coming up with a four star hotel in Civil Lines near RBI Quarters Square.
Hilton’s DoubleTree is coming up with a new hotel opposite Hotel Pride on Wardha Road. The group is expected to launch the facility very soon. Similarly, IHCL’s Ginger brand is developing two properties in the city while Sayaji Hotel, a three star property located in Bajaj Nagar, is on the verge of launching soon. Sources told ‘The Hitavada’ that N Kumar Group is building two hotels in the city - one in Central Mall in Ramdaspeth while another at Bhilgaon on Kamptee Road. One more star hotel is coming up in the heart of the city at Sitabuldi by the name of Holiday Inn International. Its construction is going on near Bank of Maharashtra at Munje Chowk. Sources further said that Hotel Centre Point Airport is building one more facility in its vicinity while Hotel Tuli Imperial group is constructing a new hotel in MIHAN. Following the footsteps of their counterparts, seven to eight owners of marriage lawns are also building nearly A-class 50 to 60 rooms each in their existing properties in and around the city. Overall, the burgeoning hotel industry presents exciting prospects for Nagpur. With a strategic approach and focus on quality, the city can leverage this growth to emerge as a major hospitality destination in India, attracting travelers from across the globe.
