The Mahtari Vandan scheme’s registration process has begun, aiming to empower women in the State. There is a noticeable enthusiasm among women and they are actively filling out forms. Workshops are being organised at the district-level to facilitate the form-filling process and address any issues women may encounter. The Mahtari Vandan scheme is set to be implemented from March 1, 2024, with the State Government initiating both online and offline registration in all districts from Monday. The deadline for receiving applications is February 20, 2024. Eligible women can apply through the online portal https://www.mahtarivandan.cgstate.gov.in or the mobile app.

The Women and Child Development Department has clarified that if a married woman lacks the necessary documents related to her marriage, she can submit a self-declaration affidavit. In case a woman does not have a mobile number, she can submit a photocopy of the ration card along with the application form. Notably, the benefits of the Mahtari Vandan scheme will be extended to residents and married women in Chhattisgarh. To avail of the benefits of the scheme, eligible women need to submit various documents, including a self-verified passport-sized photo, proof of local residence, ration card or voter ID, Aadhar card, self and spouse’s Aadhar card and, if available, PAN card.

A marriage certificate, social declaration affidavit, death certificate of the husband in the case of widows and a certificate issued by local authorities for deserted women must be provided. Under the Mahtari Vandan scheme, eligible women, including widows, divorced, and abandoned women, will receive a monthly payment of Rs 1,000 through direct bank transfer. This financial support aims to empower and uplift women in the State, promoting their socio-economic well-being. The scheme emphasises the importance of women’s self-declaration and aims to simplify the application process for those who may not possess certain required documents. The implementation of the scheme is expected to bring positive changes in the lives of women across Chhattisgarh.
