Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Thursday said that the strategically located Nagpur will soon emerge as country’s ‘logistics capital’. Gadkari said this while inaugurating the multi-modal logistics park at Sindhi Railway in the adjoining Wardha.
“Though Sindhi Railway is located in the Wardha district, it is very close to Nagpur and thus industries here will be benefited with the new facility,” he said. On the occasion, Gadkari also flagged off testing of Sindhi Railway Terminus Service. It is important to note that the project is the brainchild of Gadkari.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has established National Highway Logistics Management Limited (NHLML), a special purpose vehicle (SPV), which conducted the inaugural function.
Member of Lok Sabha Ramdas Tadas; MLA Pankaj Bhoyar; MLA Samir Kunawar; MLA Dadarao Keche; former MP Suresh Waghmare; Chairman of Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) Unmesh Wagh; Director of NHLML Satyanathan; and others were also present at the inaugural function.
Gadkari further said that the Sindhi dry port will open up new opportunities for the farmers. “Now the farmers will need not to take their agri-produce to Mumbai to send it to Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. They can now make use of railway routes and directly export the material via Haldia in West Bengal. This will save huge cost on transportation and also help the farmers sell their agri-produce at a very competitive rate,” he added.
Similarly, Gadkari highlighted the locational advantage of Sidhi dry port underlining its proximity to Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport.
