The Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation (MPRDC) has agreed for a hike in toll tax up to 7.5 per cent for the four-wheelers on four National Highways and six State Highway routes from April 1. With execution of the revised toll hike, each four-wheeler will be paying Rs 3 to 4 extra at each toll plaza. However, MPRDC has also given relief to the commuters by allowing no hike of toll tax on 92 routes from the new financial year 2024-25. There are 102 routes in State under the Public Work Department (PWD) where toll tax is being recovered from riders. Out of this 102 routes, there will be no hike for 92 routes while ten routes are set to introduce the hike in toll price from April 1. These ten routes have got price rise on condition of construction work.
According to MPRDC, toll tax has been revised for the National Highways includes Gawalior-Bhind MP-UP border, Rewa-MP-UP border, Mangawa-MP-UP border and Vyavara-MP-Rajasthan border. The six State Highways where toll hike has been introduced are Matkuli-Tamia-Chhindwara route, Jawara-Nayagaon, Chandpur-Alirajpur, Mandsaur-Sitamau, Bhopal-Dewas and Levad-Manpur. MPRDC officials said that there are four routes of National Highway where toll tax has been revised. These routes have received 1 per cent to 3.5 per cent hike under Wholesale Price Index while other six routes cover the State Highways where toll tax has been revised up to 7% increment. Officials said that National Highway get toll tax price rise based on Wholesale Price Index while State Highways get the price revision under MPRDC.
Toll hike on State Highways was proposed by the MPRDC during the construction work. When these roads were constructed, terms and conditions included the price revision of toll tax every year from April 1. Earlier, toll tax was revised from April 2, 2023, from two to five per cent. Routes under Madhya Pradesh and Centre were introduced hike by 5 to 7 per cent. Toll at Bhopal, Jabalpur, Obedullaganj, Nagpur, Bhopal and Raisen were introduced hike by 2 to 5 percent and routes associated with the state borders got 7 percent increment from April 2, 2023.
