Despite drawing a blank in Assembly elections, BSP is moving forward in the State. Maintaining equidistant from both the main parties Congress and BJP, Bahujan Samaj Party has announced to go solo in upcoming general elections and fielded 17 candidates in the State. Some of the districts of the State neighbouring Uttar Pradesh have been influenced by BSP. The BSP split votes in most seats during Assembly elections, while a few independents and the GGP too eased the BJP’s victory. Irrespective of the fact that the BSP failed to open its account in the State. In upcoming elections, the party may dent prospects of Opposition and facilitate a comfortable win for the ruling party as political experts opined. Despite the fact that some of its key leaders from the State have moved towards saffron fold and joined the latter. For instance, former Lok Sabha member Ramlakhan Singh of the BSP, ex-Congress MLA Neelesh Awasthi, former legislator and Congressman Ajay Yadav, among others, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in a series of induction of leaders from rival parties ahead of Loksabha Elections.

On other hand, former MP Budh Sen Patel, ex-BJP MLA Narayan Tripathi and Congress member Laxman Ahirwar joined the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) recently. Tripathi, a Brahmin leader from Vindh, lost the assembly polls from Maihar seat in Satna district last year. Laxman Ahirwar is the son of late Nathuram Ahirwar, who was the Congress MP from Khajuraho seat from 1966 to 1977 and had also been a minister in the state. In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the BSP failed to open its account. The confidence of party leaves questions whether the party will be kingmaker, spoiler, or simply an also-ran in the state. Despite the fact that the BSP polled 5.01% votes and won two seats in 2018 and in next elections 2023, it couldn’t win even a single seat in an election held hardly three months ago. Ignoring this utter failure, the Party is planning to field more candidates. Even Party Supremo Mayawati has planned the election campaign in the State.

Mayawati has planned the assembly election campaign in the state. In April, Mayawati will address a Public Meeting in Satana in support of the BSP candidate. On April 28, She will be in Morena Constituency of Chambal region. It has heated up political temperature in bordering states. Notably, districts sharing a border with UP conspicuous presence of Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party cannot be ignored. In Khajuraho seat, Samajwadi Party is going to give a fight to BJP as Congress has left the seat for the SP under the seat sharing agreement. From This seat, BJP has repeated its Candidate and State Party President V D Sharma.
