CITY’S pair of Ritika Thaker and Simran Singhi were no match for tournament’s second seeds as they tamely lost their opening round main draw women’s doubles match in the Badminton Asia Championships in progress at Ningbo in China, on Thursday. The better ranked Koreans Beak Ha Na and Lee So He gave the Indian pair a lesson or two in the sport winning 21-5, 21-7 in straight games with the match lasting 33 minutes. The defeat will serve as a wake up call for Ritika-Simran who are part of the Indian squad for the prestigious Uber Cup. Ritika-Simran had qualified for the main draw after winning both their Group C games. Nagpur’s challenge in the tourney ended as Malvika Bansod lost her women’s singles first round match after a gutsy show.
