Indian Railways is coming with new infrastructural projects. In this series, the Jabalpur Division of the Western Central Railways (WCR) is developing a grade separator in Katni which will be the longest made by Indian Railways in the country. As stated, the project worth Rs 1,248 crore is one of the ambitious project of the WCR. The upgrade separator will have a length of 16 km whereas the down separator will have a length of 18 km. Currently under construction, this separator will be also be equipped with retaining walls (3 km) and earth works (13 km) among others. General Manager of the WCR, Shobhana Bandopadhyay also mentioned that the project is being completed on priority.
 
As per the information by the railways, the project will serve instrumental in the development of the region and will also serve as a relief for the traffic at Katni and New Katni Junction. At present, 260 and 411 spans are under construction in the up and down separator respectively. The railways has taken a deadline of September 2024 and March 2025 for the completion of works a Up and Down grade separators respectively.
 
This project will facilitate an increase in the movement of goods train in the Bina-Katni Division. Through this project, a direct contact will be established to Bilaspur and Singrauli from Katni and will also be instrumental in reducing the costs of goods and material movements in the region and will also yield greater revenue to the railways. This project will be longest of its type built by the Indian railways and after its initiation, the region will witness a rapid and easy movement of traffic.
