India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for various districts of Vidarbha, including Nagpur, with warning of more rainfall on Sunday. Unseasonal rains during the past few days reduced the effect of scorching summer heat, but it caused crop damage in many parts of Vidarbha. IMD forecast heavy rains in central Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha. Isolated thunderstorms with hail have also been predicted in some parts of Vidarbha. Citizens are advised to take necessary precautions in light of such weather conditions. As per Weather Department’s prediction of Saturday, some parts of Vidarbha witnessed thunderstorm with lightning and rains on Sunday evening. Wardha recorded highest 16 mm rainfall on Sunday while Amravati and Gondia also witnessed some rains.
 
On Sunday, Buldhana, Gadchiroli, Gondia and Nagpur recorded the maximum temperature below 40 degrees Celcius whereas in other parts, the maximum temperature reported was over 40 degrees Celcius. At 41.8 degrees Celcius, Amravati was hottest in Vidarbha followed by Washim (41.6C) and Bramhapuri (41.3C). Normally, May is the driest month of the year, but this year’s unseasonal rains have raised the relative humidity in May. On Sunday, Amravati recorded a relative humidity of 93% and Washim 82%. Buldhana, Bramhapuri, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia and Nagpur also recorded the relative humidity above 50% on Sunday.
