female cheetah ‘Veera’ strayed out of Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh and was spotted in Gwalior on Sunday morning, a senior forest official said. The cheetah reached Gwalior via Morena and Paharganj and later killed three preys in village Bhawarpur. According to the reports, the cheetah attacked a herd of cattle and killed three goats together. Forest officials said that a team has been assigned to monitor the activities of the cheetah and efforts are being made to chase away Veera back to Kuno.
Locals of Bhawapura and nearby villages are reeling under fear and they have been suggested to stay in groups. Cattle herder Dharmveer Gurjar informed about his goats to village Sarpanch and then villagers surrounded the area. Forest Ranger Ankit Pande, Ranger Shailendra Gurjar, Mohan Sachin and other staff reached the spot. In order to ensure safety of the cheetah and the villagers, the forest team convinced local people to go back to their destination and do not assemble on the spot.
Kuno National Park, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (APCCF) Uttam Kumar Sharma said, “Veera strayed out of Sheopur and our team is monitoring her activities. She will be back to Kuno soon.” He further said that the current location of Veera is near a river so she prefers to stay on the spot. On May 3, a male cheetah was rescued from Rajasthan’s Karauli. Cheetah from Kuno National Park reached Simra village around 50 kms via Sheopur and Sabalgarh of Madhya Pradesh.
