To garner support for the proposed ‘No Flying Day’ on June 6, members of Vayu Seva Sangharsha Samiti, on Monday met with Vivek Krishna Tankha, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and handed over a memorandum to him. Himanshu Khare of the Samiti said they held detailed discussion with MP Tankha on their on-going efforts and protest for restoration of air services for Jabalpur. Khare said after lending a patient ear to their concerns, he assured them of all possible support in their on-going endeavours. He is also ready to meet with the Chairman of Airline companies in Delhi and Mumbai and urged them to restart flights from the city.

Khare said they also held discussion on the possibility of extending the flights, which are stationed at Nagpur and Bhopal Hangers to Jabalpur. He said the Samiti members will soon also approach the Chief Minister to give needed strength to the ongoing efforts. Members of Vayu Seva Sangharsha Samiti said the expansion of Dumna Airport in Jabalpur was completed at a cost of Rs 450 crores. However, as the airport developed, the number of flights started decreasing. Previously, Jabalpur had 12 flights to various cities in the country, but now it has reduced to 5, with some flights also at risk of being suspended. In response, the citizens of Jabalpur have started a protest called ‘Viman Roko Andolan’.

On June 6, traders, lawyers, doctors, students and many others from Jabalpur will come together to participate in "No Flying Day," where no one will undertake air travel unless it is absolutely necessary, on June 6. The Vayu Seva Sangharsha Samiti has called upon everyone to refrain from air travel from Jabalpur on the day. The demand is for the initiation of air services not only to Mumbai but also to Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Bangalore from Jabalpur.
