Yellow Alert: Heat wave like conditions expected in Raipur, Durg, Bilaspur div today

WITH the warning of ‘heat wave’ like conditions on May 27, no immediate respite is expected from the unabated blistering heat prevailing across State. The Met Centre has issued Yellow Alert warning of heat wave like conditions at one or two places in the districts under Raipur, Durg and Bilaspur divisions on Monday. As such, the extreme impact will cover districts of Raipur, Balodabazar, Gariaband, Dhamtari and Mahasamund in Raipur Division. Similarly, Durg, Balod, Bemetara, Kabirdham and Rajnandgaon districts in Durg Division while Bilaspur, Mungeli, Janjgir, Korba and Raigarh districts in Bilaspur division.
 
Apart from Monday, IMD has also warned of heat wave like conditions at isolated over the state from May 28 to 30. Dry conditions likely from May 28 to 31 and June 1 along with no significant change in maximum temperature for next three days will further increase severity of the existing scorching conditions. Bemetara remained the hottest city across the state recording maximum of 44.1 degree. Raipur at 43.7 degrees, Durg 46.6 degrees, Bilaspur 42.4 degrees along with Pendra and Rajnandgaon at 41.0 degrees each were reeling under extreme heat. However, this season’s highest maximum of 45.1 degree Celsius was recorded at Tilda on May 4. Weatherman predicts of dry weather and heating conditions in all districts of the state, which is a common feature during this part of the season.
 
The existing condition may prevail further during the coming week. Generally, Raipur experiences peak of summer with toughest hot conditions in the second half of May with the maximum temperature hovering around 43/44 degree Celsius. At the same time, minimum temperature remains around 30 degree Celsius, a combination of highest maximum and minimum temperature is favourable for intense heat wave conditions. In the general forecast, MeT Centre has stated of light to medium rainfall expected at one or two places in the state on May 27. Sky will be partly cloudy with maximum and minimum temperature likely around 44 and 31 degree Celsius in Raipur on Monday.
