Justice is the cornerstone of any society, its importance cannot be overstated as justice ensures equality, fairness and right protection of every individual. However, whole nation witnessed the travesty of justice, when a 17-year-old in Pune, who was accused of driving drunk and causing a fatal accident that killed two. Teenager got bail on condition that he must write a 300-word essay. Later, when the incident grabbed people’s attention, It was alleged that as the boy belongs to the affluent family many evidences related to the case was misplaced including the blood samples of the boy. The victims, Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Kosthar were IT professional from Madhya Pradesh, working in Pune. Both were the breadwinner of their respective families. Many individuals relocate to new cities for career advancement, education, and better earning opportunities, but this journey often comes with numerous challenges and injustices. While they may not be able to have their families with them everywhere, one thing that should always be accessible is justice.

It was disheartened to see our system failing in recent Pune car accident case. However, Government system may fail but the people’s voice will always keep justice alive and on view of that hundreds of citizens in Pune gathered to conduct non-political protest to demand justice for the deceased on May 26 which was led by Dushyant Dubey. “I am also from Jabalpur, and I understand that it is hard for people to demand complete justice coming from middle class family. So, when I heard of the case I decided that I will fight for the victim’s family no matter what,” said Dushyant Dubey, a renowned social worker from Bengaluru. He mentioned that despite caring about the deceased, the fuss has become centric about the accused and his family. But what I care is only about the family of deceased. This case raised question on many, how did a 17 year old was allowed to drive a car and that to be in high speed, then he gets bail on absurd condition such a write a essay.

Aneesh and Ashwini are gone but they have left family behind them and we will strive hard to not let the influence of the affluence and will fight till the conviction. On the accounts of justice, over hundreds of people have signed MoU to get signed by the Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis which includes compensation from the State Government to be provided to the families of the deceased, to appoint a top-tier public prosecutor who cannot be manipulated by the affluent or criminally connected accused. Also, all case witness should be provided protection as per the Witness Protection Scheme, the accused to be tried as an adult, not a juvenile and lastly, for the police to build a solid case providing IPC 304 (Culprit Homicide Not Amounting to murder) charges so that the driver can face the maximum possible sentencing, said Dushyant Dubey.
