People in Madhya Pradesh sweating through a deadly heat wave for past four days with beginning of Nautapa. A red alert has been issued for various districts including Gwalior, Chambal, Malwa, Nimar region indicating very high likelihood of heat illness and heat stroke for all age groups. The State has also reported some heat-related deaths in last five days. At least two people died of heat in Bhopal which sizzled at 45.4 degrees Celsius on May 27. Police said that Gwalior, Chambal and Bundelkhand in State particularly bore the brunt of heat wave with mercury breaching 47 to 48 degrees Celsius mark in most areas of the region. Sun started troubling people since Tuesday morning and till afternoon, temperature crossed the figure of 42 degrees Celsius. Highest day temperature was recorded as 48.2 degrees Celsius in Rewa and 48.0 degree Celsius in Khajuraho. Districts like Chhatarpur, Satna and Tikamgarh recorded day temperature above 47 degrees Celsius.
Indian Meteorology Department (IMD) Bhopal has released a red alert for 12 districts, orange alert for 19 districts and yellow alert for 11 districts. Overall 42 districts are expected to breach under higher temperature. Weather Department has forecast temperature to touch 48 degree Celsius in Bhind and Datia by May 29. According to Weather Department, red alert is released for Gwalior, Sheopurkala, Morena, Bhind, Datia, Shivpuri, Ashoknagar, Guna, Rajgarh, Shajapur, Neemuch and Mandsaur where temperature raged above 46 degree Celsius. Orange alert (severe heat wave) warning is released for Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Ratlam, Agar-Malwa, Jhabua, Alirajpur, Dhar, Dewas, Sehore, Khargone, Khandwa, Raisen, Vidisha, Sagar, Damoh, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Niwari where temperature hovered around 45 degrees Celsius. Yellow alert is released for Jabalpur, Badwani, Burhanpur, Narsinghpur, Katni, Umaria, Panna, Maihar, Satna, Rewa, Mauganj where temperature remained 43 to 44 degrees Celsius.
In the meantime, weather department has forecast Monsoon arrival in Madhya Pradesh from June 16 to 21. City roads almost remained deserted during day hours. Apart from day temperature, state capital Bhopal recorded all time high night temperature that broke record all records of past 40 years. On Sunday-Monday night, minimum temperature was recorded as 32.7 degree Celsius. Meteorological Department, Bhopal said that on Tuesday early morning temperature crossed the figure of 35 degree Celsius (5 am) and till 11 am, temperature was recorded 41.4 degree Celsius in Bhopal. Meteorology department said that in past 10 years, this is the highest temperature in Madhya Pradesh. Earlier in year 2015, temperature touched 45 degrees Celsius. On first day Nautapa (May 25), maximum temperature in Bhopal was 42.9 degrees Celsius and minimum temperature was recorded as 29.4 degrees Celsius. On second day of Nautapa, maximum temperature in Bhopal was 45.5 degrees Celsius and minimum 29.5 degrees Celsius.
On third day maximum temperature in Bhopal was 45.4 degree Celsius and minimum 32.4 degrees Celsius. Heat stroke has hit the normal life and city roads remained deserted throughout day. Number of patients in hospital OPD is rising everyday with complaints of heat stroke symptoms. Health Department has suggested people to stay indoors during day hours if there is no necessary work. Among the major cities of state Bhopal recorded maximum temperature 45.1 degree Celsius and minimum 31.0 degree Celsius. Gwalior recorded maximum temperature 47.6 degrees Celsius and minimum 29.2 degrees Celsius. Indore recorded maximum temperature 41.1 degrees Celsius and minimum 26.5 degrees Celsius. Ujjain recorded maximum temperature 41.6 degrees Celsius and minimum 28.0 degrees Celsius. People feel uneasy at railway stations: Railway station where many people were seen waiting for the trains and all of them seemed to be irked at the platform or in waiting hall. They said that fans at railway station are giving hot air like heat wave and during afternoon hours, they feel like fainted.
If we talk about arrival of train, on Tuesday when LTT Superfast took only 5 minute halt at the station, passengers ran with two to three water bottles in their hand to get drinking water. Colleges cancelled exam declare holiday: Amid the severe heat wave condition some colleges including VIT- Sehore, MANIT, LNCT, etc have postponed their semester exams and declared holiday for students. Besides, there are some colleges like Barkatullah University has declared exam scheduled to be held in first week of June. Even MP State Open Board is conducting exams in two shifts amid the grilling heat condition. Various competitive exams are also being held as per schedule. Animals need extra care in zoo: If we talk about animals in zoo or tiger reserves, special arrangement has been done to provide them relief from scorching heat. Van Vihar National Park has arranged air coolers, water sprinkle, khus curtain, drinking water saucer, etc.
